Line officers are responsible for the daily operations of the station. Each officer is assigned to a nightly duty crew as well as a weekend duty crew, sometimes with another officer. Together the officers manage the crew activities including training and scene operations.

 

2017 OPERATIONAL OFFICERS

 

CHIEF - TOM WOOD

Tom Wood joined SJVFD&RS in 1993. He has served as an operational officer in the positions of Fire Sergeant, both Fire and Truck Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief as well as administratively on the department's Board of Directors. Tom is a Fire Instructor II, Officer III, EMT-B, Engine and Truck Driver/Operator, and certified Rope Rescue 2, Confined Space, Trench, and Vehicle Rescue.  He was elected Chief in July 2017.

 

ASSISTANT CHIEF - NICK KELLY

 

 

Nick Kelly joined SJVFD&RS in 1996. He has served as an operational officer in the positions of Fire and Rescue Sergeant, Rescue Lieutenant, and Fire and Rescue Captain. He has also served as an administrative officer as a General Member of the Board of Directors and as the Vice President. Nick is a Fire Instructor II, Officer III, Engine and Truck Driver/Operator, and certified in Rope Rescue, Confined Space, Trench, Vehicle Rescue and is a Collapse Rescue technician.  He was appointed to the rank of Assistant Chief in July 2017.

 

 

CAPTAIN, FIRE OPERATIONS - BRANDON SMITH

 

Brandon Smith has been an operational member in Prince William County since 1997 and joined SJVFD&RS in 2015.  With more than 20 years of service, he has held various officer positions within the county from Sergeant to Deputy Chief.  Brandon is a Fire Instructor II, Officer II, EMT-B, Engine and Truck Driver/Operator, and certified in Rope and Vehicle Rescue.  He was appointed as a Captain in July 2017. In addition to his volunteer service, Brandon has a wife and two children and is an IT professional. He is an avid lacrosse player and coach.

 

 

CAPTAIN,  EMS OPERATIONS - CHERI LANDIS

 

Cheri Landis joined SJVFD&RS in October, 2012.  She has served operationally as an EMS Technician and EMS Lieutenant, as well as administratively as Secretary on the department's Board of Directors.  Cheri is an EMT-B, County Protocols Instructor, and Ambulance Officer and Driver.  

 

 

CAPTAIN,  SPECIAL OPERATIONS - STEVE KING

 

Steve King joined SJVFD&RS in 1996. He has served as Rescue Lieutenant, Rescue Captain, and is currently the Captain for Special Operations. He has also served on the department's Board of Directors, most recently as Vice President. He is a former paid/career Fire-Medic and Fire Marshal. Steve is a certified Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, and Nationally Registered Paramedic. He is a cleared Engine and Truck Driver/Operator, Officer, a PWC endorsed provider, and has completed Virginia's Heavy-Technical Rescue (HTR) courses in Rope Rescue, Confined Space, Trench Rescue, and Vehicle Rescue.

 
 

 

CAPTAIN, HEALTH & SAFETY - DAVID DAY

 

David Day joined SJVFD&RS in April 2013 after serving five years at Coles District as the EMS Captain.  He served as an operational officer in the positions of EMS Lieutenant, EMS Captain and is currently the Health and Safety Captain.  Dave also supports the administrative side of the department as the Human Resources Chairman.  Dave is a EMT-B, American Heart Association CPR Instructor, County Protocols Instructor and a Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) instructor. He serves the public as a Ambulance Officer and Driver and is certified in Technical Rescue including Vehicle Extrication and Rope Rescue 2.

 

 

 

CAPTAIN,  LOGISTICS - DREW TAYLOR

 

Drew Taylor joined SJVFD in 2008 and previously held the rank of Truck Company Technician. He is a certified Firefighter I/II, Driver-Pumper Operator, Aerial Operator, and EMT-B. Drew's certifications include HTR Technician, Instructor II, Officer III, and multiple ICS Certificates. Combining his certifications and operational experience, Drew can both drive and lead the Engine, Truck, and Ambulance.

 

 

 

CAPTAIN, TRAINING - LARRY PRICE

Larry joined the department in 2004, and has previously held positions on the Board of Directors, as Vice President, as a Lieutenant in charge of Logistics, as Captain of Special Operations, and most recently as the Captain of the Training Division.  He a certifeid EMT-B, and holds variouse certs that meet the roles of Engine and Truck Company officer as per Prince William County's Uniform Rank Structure.

 

LIEUTENANT,  HEALTH & SAFETY - BEN COCHRAN

 

Ben initially joined the fire & rescue service in 1996 and joined SJVFD in 2004.  He has served the department in several capacities including a Technician and a member of the Board of Directors.  He has represented Stonewall at the county level serving on multiple committees within the Prince William County Fire & Rescue Association.  He is also a current member of the County's Instructor Cadre teaching the volunteer recruit firefighter classes at the Public Safety Training Center.  He holds certifications as an Officer I, Instructor I, Firefighter II, and EMT as well as many others.

 

 

LIEUTENANT, TRAINING - NICK HANKE

 

Nick Hanke joined SJVFD&RS in 2015.  He has served in the volunteer fire service in VA and NJ since 1989 as a firefighter and EMT.  Nick now focuses on Emergency Medical Services for Stonewall.

 

 

LIEUTENANT, EMS OPS - JULIA DAVIS

 

Julia Davis-Stanley joined SJVFD&RS in June of 2005. Since then she has served three terms on the Board of Directors, two as Secretary and 1 as a member. Julia has also been a ambulance officer for the past 10 years. Julia has a profound passion for serving the people of Prince William County and will continue to do so. This July Julia was promoted to EMS Lieutenant. 

 

 

LIEUTENANT, EMS OPS - KIRA ULLMAN
Kira Ullman joined SJVFD&RS in 2016. She is an Ambulance Driver/Operator and EMT-B. She became an EMS Lieutenant in July 2017. 

 

LIEUTENANT, EMS SUPPLY - DALE PARKER
Dale Parker joined SJVFD&RS in 2014. He currently serves as an operational officer in the position of EMS Lieutenant, as well as administratively on the department's Board of Directors. Dale is an EMT-B, Ambulance driver and Officer.

 

SERGEANT, HEALTH AND SAFETY - MARK HARLOW
Mark Harlow joined SJVFD&RS in 1986. He has served as an operational officer in the positions of Fire Sergeant, both Fire and Truck Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief as well as administratively on the department's Board of Directors. Mark is an Engine and Truck Driver/Operator, and certified in Confined
Space and Vehicle Rescue.

 

SERGEANT, STAFFING - ETHAN COCHRAN

 

Ethan Cochran joined SJVFD&RS in 2004. He has served as both Fire Technician and Training Technician in his tenure. Ethan is a certified Firefighter, EMT-B, Engine Driver/Operator, and has training in heavy technical rescue to include vehicle extrication.  Ethan was appointed to Staffing Sergeant in July 2017.
